What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback is important when producing an ad campaign for a film because the producers and film makers want to see how the audience have reacted to the film. They want to target their audience and make sure it is something that appeals to that target audience. Often screenings of films are shown to small audience's before the film is actually properly released, so that if anything doesn't make sense, the audience can write down their feelings and views of the film and give it back to the producers so that they can adapt the film to how the audience want it.

Our group gathered our audience feedback by showing a screening of our first draft trailer to our peers. Each person in the class had a piece of paper with questions like "what is most effective in the trailer?" and "what could be improved in the trailer?" I found this helpful because at the end of the screenings, I gathered together all of the feedback and my group could see what we needed to edit and change to improve the trailer. Also, our trailer was posted on YouTube for people to see. Most of my friends saw it and told me what they thought of it.

The feedback that my group got from our trailer was that we had to mainly change the audio levels because in some parts, the volume would suddenly be much louder than it should be. Also, people said that they didn't find some shots relevant, for instance we had a shot of a tree which we put a negative filter over the top to make it look more mysterious. People suggested that we changed the font of the title and add more sound effects so that it would look more official.  The positive feedback that we got from our trailer was that we had a good range of shots and the audience liked the handheld camera movement because they thought that it looked realistic, which is what my group wanted to portray. They also said that the thought the clip at the end of the trailer was effective because they didn't know how it was made.

The feedback I received for my poster was that people thought that I should reverse the main image because it made more room for the billing block to go down the side. People also said that the font and title was too plain, so I added a shadow and made it bold. However, the positive feedback I received was that I had kept with the night vision theme and they liked how I made the picture slightly grainy so it looked like TV interference. They also liked how I had copied the image off the tree onto the poster.

The feedback I received for my magazine cover was that people thought that I should add some different pictures to my magazine cover to make it look more like a real magazine cover and I should edit the Empire title so that it fitted in with the theme of my trailer, so I edited the title on PhotoShop by adding a green tint and a grain. Also, I smudged the edges of the letters to make it look more eerie. The positive feedback I received was that my peers liked the scratch mark effect underneath the headings because it links to the horror theme of the magazine cover. They also liked how I edited the eyes on the main image because they thought that it enhanced the eyes and made the cover stand out.

I used the feedback to improve my work by editing the poster and magazine cover on Photoshop. I found the feedback helpful because it raised problems which i didn't see.
