Below, I have used bullet points to explain what new technologies I have used in the creation of my teaser trailer, poster and magazine cover.
- I used Phototshop for my ancillary tasks and for creating my poster and magazine cover. I could import pictures into photoshop and then edit them and add text. I could import a poster or magazine onto Photoshop, along side mine so that I could use a similar layout and compare mine to the official ones. I also used Photoshop to create a mood board for my trailer.
I used Flickr to annotate and analyse real horror magazine and posters so that I could create ideas for my own. Also, when you upload a photograph to Flickr, you can post it straight to your Blog and when you click on the image in blogger, it re-directs you to Flickr, complete with all of your annotations. This helped to keep everything organised.
By using websites such as Blogger and YouTube, I was able to import videos from YouTube onto Blogger. My group's finished horror trailer was uploaded onto YouTube, where it can be viewed by a mass international audience. The audience can rate, comment and like our trailer, which allows my group to collect feedback from it. This has been a key element in the promotion of real horror films.
Blogger has been extremely helpful in the fact that it allows me to organize and post all of my coursework. It also allows me to upload my poster and magazine cover from Photoshop and allowed me to copy to the link from my trailer on YouTube and upload it to Blogger. It is also easy to evaluate our work and comment on pictures and videos. Blogger is linked with Flickr which is helpful because then we can easily access our annotated work.
The advantages of Blogger are that it is more interactive and creative as you don't have to type lots of texts to explain what you are doing. I think that this way of working is more stronger and interesting because with an essay format, it is easy to get bored and the work doesn't look very interesting.
My group used a handheld camera, with a night vision function on it, similar to the one in the picture. We used a tripod on a couple of shots, but we mainly wanted to go with the handheld camera theme. When we had captured our footage, we attached the camera to the mac computer and uploaded the footage onto a program called Final Cut Pro, where we could edit and add sound effects to our trailer. The shots were formed into a timeline where it was easy to rearrange and edit them. We could apply lots of different effects to our trailer such as adding fade to blacks, flashes and speeding the footage up. I found using Final Cut Pro quite challenging to begin with, however, once I had enough practise, it was easy and interesting to use because the end result does look effective. We also created a title in Photoshop and then uploaded this to Final Cut Pro. We could also copy stills from our trailer and then upload them to Photoshop where we could used them on the front of our poster of magazine cover.
The advantages of Web 2.0 technologies for low budget/no budget film makers are that with websites and software such as the ones above, they can easily make, distribute, research and promote their own media texts.
The technologies have made it possible to develop my creativity, skills and knowledge because I learnt a lot about how to use the software and how to upload different things to the computers and my Blog. It also allowed me to experiment with all of the different tools and effects on Final Cut Pro and Photoshop so if I need to use these technologies later on or in a different lesson, I will understand how they work.
