In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our group decided to use this low angle shot because we thought that it creates a sense of vulnerability for the character. The audience can also identify with the character and see their expression. The night vision also works well because it looks realistic and you cannot see what is surrounding the character, which creates a more eerie effect. They are conventions which have been used and the audience are familiar with these.

My group has chosen to use similar graphics as the Blair Witch Project trailer as we thought that this gives the trailer a more realistic look. Our text (at the bottom) is positioned in the same way as the Blair Witch text because we thought that this is easy for the audience to read and the typewriting effect gives the trailer a formal effect, again adding to the realism.

Our group decided to set our trailer in Fritton Woods because we thought that the numerous trees made the setting look claustrophobic. We have chosen to create a shot similar to the Blair Witch Project, where there is a suspicious symbol hanging from a tree. Our group found a strange marking on a tree and decided to include this footage in our trailer because the convention has been used before and works well in the Blair Witch Project trailer. I also think that it makes the audience think deeper into what the symbol could mean.

Our group has used a camera interference effect on some of our clips. This relates to trailers such as Quarantine. This implies that something bad is happening or something bad is going to happen. Its also makes the audience feel on edge and jumpy especially if the crackling sound is used too. I think that this is a good effect because it adds to the realism and builds up tension for the audience.

We have used many close up shots in our trailer because the audience can familiarise with the characters and you can see the characters expressions. This shot is very popular in horror films and it has been used many of times so we knew that it would work well and be effective. The shot with the woman in the trap is from the new SAW film, this works well because you can clearly see the expression on her face. The low angle shot is a still from our trailer and i think this works well because it implies that the camera is handheld and adds to the realism.

We have used a high angle shot which is similar to the one used in the Blair Witch Project. I think that this makes the audience feel as if they are there and the ones being preyed on. These shots are popular in horror films because they imply that the characters are panicking or trying to find a way out. I think that the night vision in our trailer effect creates a more eerie effect.

These two shots are similar because they both have the night vision effect. The green stands out and the black could imply that something is hiding in the darkness, creating a tense atmosphere for the audience. In our trailer, we used a night vision camera, however we felt that the green didn't stand out as much as the Quarantine trailer so we enhanced the green tint on Final Cut Pro. I think that the night vi son effect works well through out our trailer as it makes it more interesting.

The top image from the 2008 trailer Eden Lake. I think that the long shot works well because the character is positioned in the center of the shot with the forest surrounding them, which again implies that they cannot escape easily. In our groups shot because the character is running away from the camera, the camera could imply the killer watching him run away.

These shots are establishing shots, they look dark and dingy and imply that something bad is going to happen there. This is a common convention in horror trailers where the an establishing shot of the house or place is shown. I think that the top shot (from Nightmare on Elm Street) is effective because it looks dark and eerie. I also think our groups shot looks as effective because the night vision enhances the metal bars implying that it is a trap for the characters.
